Make an IRA Charitable Distribution
Giving from your IRA to a fund at the Richland County Foundation is one of the smartest ways for people aged 70 ½ or older to maximize charitable impact. When you transfer IRA assets directly to a charity, it is called a qualified charitable distribution. It can help satisfy your required minimum distribution without taxes, preserving the full amount for charitable purposes.
How to make an IRA charitable distribution
- Contact your financial planner to talk about your IRA gift to the Richland County Foundation. They will need our EIN number, which is 34 0872883. Here is a sample letter to your IRA Administrator.
- Please fill out this form so we know how to handle and acknowledge your gift.
At age 591/2, you can make a gift from your IRA penalty-free, though it may still be subject to income tax. IRA gifts can be added to most of our funds, except donor advised funds. Please indicate in the form below where you would like your gift to go (i.e., Community Fund or another fund at the Foundation).
