I want to inform you about an opportunity to build the Mansfield Police Department Fund at the Richland County Foundation. Merris and Jean Welge created the Mansfield Police Department Fund at the Foundation in 2017 to support local law enforcement.

To incentivize donors and to grow the MPD Fund, the Welges are offering a challenge match. You could double your donation. So, for every dollar donated they will match it up to $10,000. The challenge match will run from now through December 2 to include #RichlandGives.

Merris worked in Downtown Mansfield for 25 years, seeing firsthand how hard local police worked. He always admired how they put themselves at risk every day for the safety of their community. Merris and Jean are leaders in creating a mechanism for people who want to support law enforcement in other ways than taxes. They recognize the importance of law enforcement in our community.

The specific use of the fund is up to Chief of Police Jason Bammann. He will work with the Foundation to allocate the funds to the best use. The MPD Fund helped purchase the de-escalation simulator to train officers.

The Welges want local law enforcement to know they appreciate them and their dedication to their community. Their vision is this fund will prompt members of the community to get involved in assisting local law enforcement.

Click the donate button, and select the Mansfield Police Department Fund in the dropdown box. Or you can write a check to the Richland County Foundation and note the fund on the memo line.

Thank you for embodying the spirit of philanthropy.
