Types of Grants
Each year the Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations from the 307 charitable funds established by donors. Grants are awarded in the following ways:
Competitive Community Grants are supported by the Foundation’s unrestricted funds and field-of-interest funds. These General community grants are awarded six times each year. Individual assistance grants are awarded semi-annually to nonprofit organizations that provide direct emergency assistance to individuals and families. Special grantmaking initiatives with annual grant programs include Summertime Kids (STK), Teacher Assistance Program (TAP), Connections, and The Women’s Fund.
Designated Grants ensure long-term annual support to nonprofit organizations, and are made from funds established and directed by donors to support one or more specific organizations.
Donor Advised Grants are made through suggestions from individuals or families who have established donor advised funds at the Foundation. Following guidelines established by the Board of Trustees, donors may suggest grants to 501 (c)(3) charitable organizations both locally and throughout the United States.
College Scholarships are awarded to Richland County full time undergraduate students who attend an accredited college or university on a full-time basis, demonstrate minuimum grade-point average, and show financial need.
