2010 Community Grants

December

Catholic Charities received $15,000 as a start-up grant for a Payeeship Program that helps clients (including the elderly) allocate resources to pay bills and to learn budgeting skills. Granted from the Alan P. Tappan Fund.

Lions – District 13-B Philanthropic Fund received $10,000 to purchase two full sets of tracking device equipment to implement Project Lifesaver. Tracking equipment will be located at Sheriff’s out post locations in Shiloh and Butler to conduct county-wide search and rescue efforts to locate individuals with dementia, autism, or cognitive conditions that may cause them to wander. Granted from Pauline S. Treisch Fund.

MedCentral Health System received $3,000 for Your Heart in the Balance to purchase scales for clients with critical congestive heart conditions to monitor their weight, as it pertains to fluid retention. Granted from the Marion Draffan Wilsdon Fund.

Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center received $10,000 as the final dollars needed for the Kitchen Renovation Project. Granted from the Fellows Fund.

Shelby Church of the Nazarene received $6,042 for K-City Community Childcare Center to purchase start-up equipment for the newly acquired childcare center in Shelby. Granted from the Verdabelle Plank Miller Fund and the Milton C. and Mary Louise Oakes Fund.

American Red Cross will receive up to $15,000 as last dollars to provide emergency shelter, clothing, and food for victims of natural disasters in Richland County. Granted from the Verdabelle Plank Miller Fund.

Catholic Charities received $50,000 to assist the elderly (60+) with rent/mortgage payments to cover medical bills and prescription drugs. Granted from several Field of Interest funds for the elderly and indigent.

Kids Connection of Ohio, Inc. received $25,000 for the Empowerment Program, Developing Leadership in Youth at Malabar Intermediate School during the 2010-2011 academic year. Granted from the Dean A. & Eleanor H. Eckert Fund and the John B. & Pearl R. Conard Fund.

The Foundation Center received $2,500 for 2010-2011 program support. The Foundation Center regional office in Cleveland maintains a database for grant writers and provides staffing for grantwriting workshops held through a partnership with Richland County Foundation and the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. Granted from the F. Wayne & Isabel Bogan Young Fund.

Mansfield Art Center received $75,000 for The Art 4ward Campaign, which will support the construction of a “signature entrance” as one of several projects planned to enhance the property. Granted from the Katharine C. Bristor Fund, the RCF Consolidated Memorial Fund, and the Paul R. Tappan Fund.

Plymouth Area Historical Society received $11,700 to replace the original single paned windows with energy efficient double paned windows to secure and maintain the integrity of the building. Granted from the Roger A. & Elizabeth Thomas Black Fund.

Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center received $14,900 for Rider/Driver Scholarships for children with mental and/or physical handicaps. Granted from the Ralph C. Lutz Fund.

Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center received $18,288 toward the Indoor Riding Hall Revitalization. Granted from the Marion B. Bowers Fund.

Renaissance Performing Arts received $10,000 for Neo Dance Theatre’s Next Steps for access to professional repertoire for performances in Mansfield and tours in other cities. Granted from the Katherine L. Parker Fund.

The Salvation Army received $15,000 to provide emergency utility payment assistance. Granted from the Milton C. & Mary Louise Oakes Fund.

Shelby Senior Center received $2,200 to build a storage barn and a cement pad. Granted from the Charles R. Underhill Fund.

August

Plymouth Local Schools received a grant of $1,584 to help build a pavilion to provide a shaded area and outdoor classroom on the elementary school playground. Granted from the John B. and Pearl R. Conard Charitable Fund.

June

Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center received a grant of $22,760 to help fund remodeling of their newly acquired building. The main street building will consolidate services for people in need in the Clear Fork Valley area. Granted from the Roger A. & Elizabeth Thomas Black Fund.

City of Shelby Central Park Master Plan Project, was awarded a grant of $10,000 in matching dollars to develop a comprehensive plan for long-term flood plain management in the areas of downtown Shelby historically destroyed by flooding. Granted from the F. Wayne & Isabel Bogan Young Fund.

Mansfield Area Y Crestview Childcare Project, received a grant of $13,000 to purchase capital equipment as a start-up for the Crestview Daycare/Childcare Center. The new center will provide a much needed service to families in the northern part of the county. Granted from the Heloise H. Tappan Memorial Fund.

Mid-Ohio Educational Services Center SPARC received a grant of $100,000 to be paid over three years. SPARC “Succeed and Prosper through Education–Ashland, Richland and Crawford” is a 10-year education initiative focusing on increasing educational attainment from Pre-K through grade 16. Granted from the Marion B. Bowers Fund and the Charles R. Underhill Fund.

The Center for Individual & Family Services received a grant of $1,650 to help fund a board retreat as they integrate services with The Rehab Center. Granted from the Marion Draffan Wisdom Fund.

Mt. Hope Lutheran Church for Plymouth-Shiloh Food Pantry, received a grant of $5,000 to help purchase food for the pantry. Granted from the Mary S. Wilsdon Fund.

Shelby High School Alumni Association for received a grant of $4,000 to provide the final dollars needed to renovate the Harryet Snyder Science Center at Shelby High School. Granted from the Mary S. Wilsdon Fund.

Shelby YMCA Community Center received a grant of $30,000 as last dollars to purchase and install dehumidification and ultraviolet systems for the swimming pool. Granted from the James H. Hoffman Fund and the David N. and Miriam G. Feiser Fund.

North Central State College Foundation received a multi-year grant of up to $500,000 for their Opening Doors Capital Campaign. Granted from several unrestricted funds.
