General Community Grants
Who can apply for a community grant?
A 501(c)(3) public charity or public entity (such as schools or local government) serving residents of Richland County.
Does the organization have to be located in Richland County?
No, but the organization must demonstrate service to residents of Richland County.
How often are community grants awarded?
Six times a year, at each regular Board of Trustees meeting.
Can individuals apply for a grant from Richland County Foundation?
No. The Foundation makes grants to public charities that provide direct service to individuals.
What is the grant application process?
Check the grant guidelines on this website. Make an appointment with the Foundation Program Officer to discuss your request.
Are grant applications available online?
Yes, for Summertime Kids, Teacher Assistance Program (TAP), The Women’s Fund, and Connections grants and also for college scholarships.
What are the grant application deadlines?

How long does it take to get approval/answer?
Usually 6 – 8 weeks.
Can a grant be funded over several years?
Occasionally, such as for a major capital campaign.
How are grant recipients selected and who decides?
Various Foundation committees review grant applications and make recommendations that are approved by the Board of Trustees. Committees include trustees and members of the Richland County community.
If an agency gets a grant, how soon are the funds available?
As soon as the grant contract is signed by the agency CEO, and returned to the Foundation, a check is issued, unless there are special conditions that the agency must first meet.
Are there other requirements?
All grant recipients are required to complete a follow up report on the grant outcomes.
